Match (2019)

Co-Creation and Performance: Kate Nankervis & Ann Trépanier

A movement research delving into empathy, interconnectedness, and heat, igniting an essence of fire that exposes sensations and emotions to be visibly tangible.

Using the percetived boundaries of the body, debordering a space that amplifies sensing, listening, and emotional impressions. It accumulates and transforms through the sensuous.

Using sound recording devices, microphones, and loop pedals creates sonic and spacial dimensions, inviting the audience to soften their visual experience - to tune into embodied listening and collective attention, unfolding like a delicate interplay of echoes, ripples, traces, and residual effects.

Making contact, pushing into each other, rubbing their bodies together, and holding and pulling in a rhythmic harmony - the vibrations, friction, and tension create a dissonance, akin to two flashes, notes and beings reflecting off each other.

The performance explores the boundaries of abundance and overuse, questioning whether the overwhelming sensations and created space offer true interconnectedness or veer into excess.

"Match is crepuscular, reminiscent of twilight, playing with the juxtaposition of light and darkness, the margins of fire and burning “.

“As the dancers crackle like a fire, the heated relationship unfolds, prompting reflection on the nature of their relations—with whom, with what, and what consciousness accompanies these connections.”
